We are nestled alongside South Nutfield Church Primary School in the Village Hall. There is ample parking in nearby roads and in Mid Street directly . We love to encourage our children to get to know the village. We take our children on a weekly ‘Explorers’ walk across the neighboring fields and allotments so we can learn about the seasons and understand our surroundings. We take part in community events such as the Nutfield Advent Christmas Windows and are even included in the Community Police Officer visit list, much to the children’s delight! We believe all children are entitled to a high-quality education that promotes high standards, is appropriate to their needs, and helps them to achieve their best possible outcomes and fulfil their potential. When children are at earlier stages of development than expected, it is important to notice what they enjoy doing and find out where their difficulties may lie. By getting to know our children well, through a robust Key Person system and ongoing monitoring we will quickly notice when some are struggling to do some of the things that we would expect to see for their chronological age. Within a few weeks of starting the Pre-school we will have a good indication of what stage of development they are currently at. All children are individual and it is part of normal childhood development and may just indicate that, with minor adjustments to the teaching methods, or the provision of small amounts of support, encouragement and additional help, good progress can be made. Our aim is to give all children the best start in life. When we have identified a child as having a special educational need and/or disability it is vital that we support the family and the child through a cycle of support. The cycle consists of Assess, Plan, Do and Review which supports the Graduated Response document used to identify levels of support a child or their family may require to acheive their long-term outcomes. All children develop at different rates, and some begin to exceed in some areas and not in others. We have a highly qualified team of Practitioners who can offer support and are sensitive to those children. As we have thorough monitoring processes we can easily see when children are working towards their Early Learning Goal sooner than others. For example, we are mindful that whilst a child might be exceeding in their phonetical understanding and showing signs of early reading, they might lack confidence in their interactions with other children and adults within the Pre-school. We would always have conversations with parents to discuss how we can work together. In this case we would suggest that we would focus on the interactions and social skills at Pre School whist parents would continue to support the early reading as this will result in their all-round development.
